BoxFreeIT is running an educational series called the Future of Work, sponsored by Salesforce.com, that breaks down the mechanics of CRM into three components vital to business.
The second component is managing your list of contacts. These days businesses form new relationships over a dozen channels besides the phone. Social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter; email newsletter signups on the company website or webinars to promote an event, product or service; “live” events such as a conference or trade show; and not to mention purchased contacts through a lead generation service, rented databases, or electronic direct mail.
Businesses struggle to organise this ballooning number of contacts into a list that is meaningful.
First up are practical issues. How do you keep lists of contacts from different sources in sync? Is it possible to have a single list that automatically combines all my contacts into one database?
The practical issues often create operational issues that have an impact on the business’ bottom line. Who are the most important people on that list? Who should I call to make my next sale? Which contacts no longer need to be on this list?
Every Wednesday you can read about the latest theories, tips and strategies for cultivating your contacts in BoxFreeIT’s Future of Work series.
Here’s a list of the stories so far:
