The practice management software field is in a state of flux. Not only has veteran information services company CCH announced its entry with the acquisition of Acclipse’s iFirm, Xero has decided to give firms with 25 or more Xero clients its own product, WorkflowMax, for free.
At the same time, conventional practice management software has become increasingly expensive, with one vendor raising annual software maintenance fees by 20 percent in the past 12 months. Accounting firms are also facing the added cost of upgrading servers to run new versions of practice management software.
