Details filter out with early marketing.
MYOB has revealed a strategy to label browser-only accounting applications such as Xero and Saasu as “first-generation” cloud solutions. MYOB described “second-generation” solutions, such as MYOB’s upcoming AccountRight Live, as those that combined desktop software with a browser application.
“1st generation cloud solutions = browser only. Examples include Hotmail, EBAY, TradeMe and MYOB LiveAccounts,” wrote MYOB executive John Wilkings on Twitter. “2nd generation cloud solutions = app and cloud. Examples = DropBox, Itunes, Skype and MYOB #AccountRightLive.”
While no competitors were mentioned in the social media marketing, there were allusions to chief cloud rival Xero – Xero CEO Rod Drury was a board member on TradeMe.
MYOB released few details about AccountRight Live since the botched launch of AccountRight 2011 in November last year. MYOB accountants and consultants refused to recommend the software to their clients because they claimed it had too many bugs. MYOB has since released several upgrade packs to address performance and quality issues.

Signs of MYOB’s long-awaited cloud program AccountRight Live have started to emerge in social media marketing slogans. The marketing messages, carrying the hashtag “Cloud without compromise”, focussed on the benefits of using MYOB’s desktop software, such as speed, the ability to work offline, and a familiar interface.
Working offline was a key selling point for MYOB’s hybrid desktop-cloud approach. Browser-based applications such as Xero and Saasu required an internet connection to access information. “If you know anyone unable to access their accounting system due to outage, let them know about #AccountRightLive #CloudWithoutCompromise,” Wilkings wrote.
Tweets were also posted of MYOB management in what appeared to be internal seminars on MYOB’s cloud software. MYOB was holding a roadshow with its partner accountants and bookkeepers in August during which its cloud software strategy would be revealed. The first Partner Connection 2012 event was to be held in Perth next week.
MYOB was also holding online and in-person Cloud Solutions Seminars which included a live demonstration of AccountRight Live, an overview of other cloud products and compliance updates for the 2013 financial year.
