Can function as 100% software-as-a-service, MYOB says.
“AccountRight Live is installed as cloud-enabled desktop software that allows multi-user access to the online company file. Clients, their accountant, their bookkeeper and other business partners can work on their business data in the cloud, on the desktop or alternate between the two when they choose. When a client works on data in the cloud, every change is saved to the cloud file in real-time. Those changes are automatically pushed (synced) from the cloud file to the local file and saved every 20 minutes, keeping it up to date. In addition, clients can choose to sync in this way whenever they want.
“When a client works against a cloud file this is 100% a software-as-a-service model, as they are using the business logic and data from the cloud-side and the desktop is only providing the user interface – exactly the way a browser would. So in this situation all users are interacting in real time and there is no issue with conflicting changes.
“Conversely, AccountRight Live clients can choose to keep a local copy of their business data. If they choose or need to go offline for some reason and want to work on their data offline, they must do so exclusively by checking out the file. This puts the shared version in the cloud in read-only mode. When the disconnected user reconnects their latest copy is synced back up to the cloud and the exclusive lock is removed.
“Also note that users don’t need a late-model PC for AccountRight Live. 2GB and dual cores are recommended, which have been available for over five years. We test on these machines and also more current ones to ensure a good experience.”
