Watch out financial advisers. Strap this little device on your wrist and it may one day be all you’ll ever need. Seattle-based design studio Artefact, has come up with Token, a wearable that puts all your finances on your wrist, creating one synced money management ecosystem.
“We have a lot of card-based systems and apps, and a lot of ways to interact with that system. But there isn’t one way to pull all these incongruous things together,” Artefact design director Craig Erickson told Wired. “The big question is: what if we converged sensors and wearables to create a more efficient way of managing money?”
Token can be used to purchase items, transfer and request funds, and check bank statements. It even warns you when you’re overspending. As for security, users would have to input a PIN on the touchscreen and then unlock it with a fingerprint scan. And unlike credit cards and smartphones, stealing something that’s tightly strapped to your wrist requires ninja skills.
Sadly, the device remains a concept – Erickson says no infrastructure is in place for Token to thrive. The concept would need vendors and banks to have technology that could do transactions through Bluetooth or QR code. For now, he considers Token a reminder to financial institutions that there are better ways of doing things.
