Xero has made online activity statements (BAS forms) available to all users of Xero Practice Manager, the company announced in a post today.
The BAS forms joined tax file number declaration forms for employees as the first items on Xero’s tax platform, which will be fully released in June. The company claimed 12,000 online declarations had been filed during the pre-release program. Over 500 accounting firms were using Xero Practice Manager, Oliver Furniss, Xero product manager, said. The program was free for accountants and bookkeepers who had sold over 25 Xero licences (silver, gold or platinum in Xero’s partner program).
Xero accountants and bookkeepers could file BAS forms electronically by publishing them in the clients’ Xero account and then using Practice Manager to select the outstanding form from a list generated by the ATO. Once selected the form auto-filled the required feeds with data from Xero and the ATO.
Accountants and bookkeepers could fill out the form manually for clients not using Xero’s accounting software. Completed forms could be marked as approved or sent to clients to sign off before filing with the ATO. Once the ATO had acknowledged receipt, the status of the activity statement was automatically updated in Xero and Xero Practice Manager.
Xero was building other returns and schedules in time for the June release and planned to support both 2013 and 2014 forms, the company announced on its blog. Xero was updating the interface for Practice Manager and would show a preview at its October roadshows.
