Accounting software company Xero has become the latest vendor to offer free conversions from rival accounting programs with a limited campaign in April. Xero planned to give 10,000 free conversions through its Australian accountant and bookkeeper partners, the company announced in a press release after passing 100,000 paying customers in Australia this month.
Intuit already offered free conversions to QuickBooks Online and MYOB had provided conversion tools to select partners.
Xero revealed to 5,500 partners attending its February roadshows that it was building an automated conversion service into the sign-up process for new Xero customers. The service would be tested in the US market first and was expected in Australia in the second half of the year.
Xero had earlier resisted involvement in offering conversion services and several independent companies had met demand through offshore processing centres.
Xero’s Australian total of 100,000 paying customers was up from 75,000 at 30 August.
