Carpenters have it easy when it comes to choosing their tools. No-one bothers to reinvent the hammer.
But it’s a different story for office-based businesses. It’s tough trying to find the right tool for the job when technology is involved because the options keep changing.
These days the pace of change is overwhelming businesses. Young companies emerge each month promising new solutions to old problems – and sometimes the solutions look nothing like the ones you’re used to.
Most business owners ask an IT expert for help, but sometimes it’s hard to know whether you’re getting the right advice. Are they recommending the latest, most cost-effective and productive solution that is best suited to the way your business operates? Or is it just the technology with which the expert is the most familiar?
CloudFAQ is an experiment to find a better way of finding the right technology for you. It works like this.
Each week BoxFreeIT will choose a topic suggested by readers for discussion in the Cloud-Powered Businesses LinkedIn Group. Two independent cloud specialists will answer questions from readers on Thursday at 3pm (Sydney, Australia time, AEST), and readers can share their own experiences at tackling that particular problem with different solutions.
The questions will be targeted by industry as often the advice of your peers proves to be the best value.
The topic for the first CloudFAQ (held this Thursday at 3pm) is: What is the best solution for replacing your file storage server in an accounting firm?
I’m proud to announce two veterans of the cloud scene will be our first cloud specialists. Tony Chadwick, co-founder of Rype, will demonstrate using Google Apps to store your documents, while Nick Beaugeard, CEO of HubOne, will show how Microsoft Office 365 can do the same.
Both solutions are of course cloud-based, which means you can get rid of your file storage server permanently.
Nick and Tony will answer any questions you have about security, installation, access, control and backup – or anything else you care to throw at them.
If you have already moved to cloud-based file storage, or if you prefer to run your own server, please feel free to join the conversation and share your experiences.
Please join the Cloud-Powered Businesses LinkedIn group before posting to make sure your questions and comments are viewed immediately, otherwise they could be held back for moderation.

See you there!
